SC senior lawyer Abdul Baset laid to rest

Abdul Baset Majumder, former president of Bangladesh Supreme Court Lawyers' Association and vice-chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council, was laid to rest at his family graveyard at Lalmai in Cumilla on Wednesday evening.
He was buried at the graveyard following the third namaz-e-janaza held after Maghrib prayers. A large number of people from the district, including his family members and relatives, were present at that time.
The first namaz-e-janaza of the veteran lawyer was held at 11 a.m. at the Banani Central Mosque.
His body was then taken to Supreme Court premises.
The second namaz-e-janaza was scheduled to be held at the High Court premises after Zuhr prayers but due to lack of space, the janaza was arranged at the National Eidgah Maidan at 2.00pm.
Earlier, Abdul Baset died at about 8am at at United Hospital in Dhaka where he had been undergoing treatment since September 30, said his son Adv Sayeed Ahmed Raja.
Abdul Baset was on life support from Monday following deterioration of his condition.
The 84-year-old veteran lawyer left behind his wife, two sons, two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wisher to mourn his death.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Law Minister Anisul Huq expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of eminent lawyer Abdul Baset Majumder.
In a message of condolence, she recalled with due respect Majumder's contribution to the law arena alongside giving assistance to the commoners.
The Prime Minister called Majumder as "close friend" of the lawyers.
Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
