Teacher Farhana appears before UGC probe team
A probe team of University Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday went to Rabindra University at Shahjadpur in Sirajganj district to investigate allegations of forced haircuts of 14 students against Farhana Yasmin Baten, an associate professor of the university.
The accused teacher Farhana Yasmin Baten appeared before the UGC probe team in the afternoon.
Led by convener of the probe team Professor Dr Dil Afroza Begum, UGC director (Public Universities) Jamilur Rahman and assistant director Yusuf Hasan began the investigation process from the morning. Though Professor Dil Afroza Begum joined virtually from Dhaka, two other members conducted the on-spot investigation staying at the campus in Shahjadpur.
The probe body received the verbal and written statements of the 14 students, witnesses, and those who were on-duty at examination centres on the day of occurence.
Arriving at the university directly under police escort, teacher Farhana presented her opinion before the probe committee. Avoiding the mass media and agitating students, she stayed at the university with caution.
Registrar Md Sohrab Ali confirmed about conducting the investigation process and teacher Farhana's face-to-face appearance.
Meanwhile, the students did not take part in any movement on Wednesday as they earlier gave time till November 28 at the request of the authoritries concerned.
The students have been agitating over the last one month demanding permanent suspension of teacher Farhana Yasmin Baten.
