NCTB chairman, member summoned over mistakes in textbooks

The High Court on Sunday summoned the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Chairman and Member (Curriculum) over the mistakes and distortions in textbooks at Secondary and Higher Secondary level.
They were asked to appear before the High Court in person on November 10 next and explain the issue.
The High Court bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after holding a hearing on a writ petition that was filed challenging the mistakes and distortions made in the textbooks.
The High Court also issued a ruling upon the respondents to explain as to why they should not be directed to take effective measures to make correction in the textbooks of the students of Secondary and Higher Secondary level.
Education Secretary, NCTB Chairman, Member (Curriculum), Secretary, Chief Editor and other respondents have been asked to comply with the ruling within four weeks.
Md Alamgir Alam, guardian of a student of the Viqarunnisa Noon School & College, and a resident of the Jatrabari area of the capital, filed the writ petition recently.
Advocate Ali Mustafa Khan appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner, while deputy attorney general Bepul Bagmar represented the state.
The petition said mistakes and distortions made, specially regarding Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the textbooks of Secondary and Higher Secondary level were done with mala-fide intention.
