'Destiny-Jubok clients can get 60pc of their money back'

Deceived clients of Destiny and Jubok may receive some 50 to 60 per cent of their money, said Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Sunday.
Destiny and Jubok earned crores of taka by cheating thousands of people few years back.
Both Destiny and Jubok have huge movable and immovable property. The market prices of those property have increased to a great extent. Even, if those are sold at fair prices, it is possible to pay back 50 to 60 per cent of the money of clients easily, he said.
However, the sale of the assets of the two companies depends on the Law Ministry, he said.
"The Law Minister told me it is a matter related to court. [Deceived cleints] may be compensated after attaching any agency to the process. The Law Ministry is working on it," he said.
Sources at the Ministry of Commerce said the directors of Destiny and Jubok have held back minimum Tk 7,000 crores of the clients.
The Commerce Minister said it while speaking at an opinion-sharing meeting on "Role of Economic Reporters Forum to create a competitive environment through the implementation of Competition Act," organised by the Bangladesh Competition Commission (BCC) in Dhaka.
Referring to the e-commerce sector, the Commerce Minister said the sector has been moving forward, generating huge employment opportunities. "We can't put some 30,000 companies on risks for just a couple of companies," he said.
