UGC cautions against admission into 26 private universities

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a public notice cautioning students seeking admission into 26 private universities of the country.
The public notice was issued on Thursday which has also been posted to the UGC website.
The UGC has advised students to get admission into the government-approved and UGC-approved campuses and programmes.
Besides, the UGC advised students not to get admitted to the universities which don't have the President appointed vice-chancellors, pro-vice-chancellors, and treasurers.

Conflict has been going on over the ownership in some of these universities, while some have been running their affairs with the stay orders from court. Some have also been running programmes beyond their approved programmes, while some universities have been operating campuses without the approval of UGC.
The UGC said it would not take responsibility for anyone enrolled at any private university or any of their campuses or any of their programmes or courses with no permission from the commission, according to the notice.
The universities mentioned in the notice are:
IBAIS University, America Bangladesh University, Queen's University, The University of Comilla, Asian University of Bangladesh, Times University Bangladesh,
Southern University Bangladesh, Gano Biswavidyalaya, Prime Asia University, University of Development Alternative, Daffodil International University, Victoria University of Bangladesh, Southeast University, Sylhet International University, Britannia University of Comilla, Cox's Bazar International University, ZH Sikder University of Science and Technology, Pundru University, Rupayan AKM Shamsuzzoha University (Narayanganj), Ahsania Mission University of Science and Technology (Rajshahi), Shah Makhdum Management University, Khulna Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah University, Microland University of Science and Technology (Dhaka), and newly approved Sheikh Hasina University of Science and Technology in Kishoreganj.
Besides, Darul Ihsan University has already been declared closed.
