T-Aman cultivation target achieved in Comilla

COMILLA, Sept 7: The cultivation target of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy was achieved in 16 upazilas here successfully this year with an expectation of bumper yield of the paddy.
Sources in the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Comilla said, a total of 1,10,490 hectares of land were targeted to bring under the T-Aman paddy farming this year with the production target of 2,86,315 tonnes of rice.
Of the total land, 99,817 ha were brought under high quality of paddy while the rest 9,321 ha under local variety of paddy.
Of the total cultivated land, about 7,720 ha have been brought in Chandina, 10,955 ha in Dabidwar, 5,070 ha in Muradnagar, 300 ha in Daudkandi, 800 ha in Homna, 6,380 ha in Comilla Sadar, 9,410 ha in Burichong, 4,670 ha in Brahmanpara, 17,745 ha in Chowddagram, 5,675 ha in Laksam, 12,540 ha in Nangolkot, 14,015 ha in Barura, 165 ha in Titas, 20 ha in Monoharganj, and 15,025 ha in Comilla Sadar Dakkhin upazila.
The seedlings of the paddy are growing well and the fields have turned greenish enhancing the scenic beauty of the district. Now, the growers are busy in nurturing their paddy fields to get the desired yield with a view to ensuring food security till the next Boro harvest.
Deputy Director (DD) of the DAE here Md. Abul Khair told The Daily Observer that, char lands of Taltali, Banichar, Tulatali and Bhengachar under Meghna upazila would be brought under the cultivation of late variety paddy this season in addition to the target fixed by the department.
A farmer Paresh Ranjan Kar of Chandina upazila said, they had been expecting a bumper output of T-Aman paddy this season due to the ongoing favourable weather and availability of agricultural inputs.
"If the weather remains favourable, there will be an all-time record production of Rabi crops in the region this season," DAE officials said.
