BNP now too weak to launch movement: Obaidul Quader

Magura: Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Kader on Friday said,  "Continuous running of 'Wrong political programme' by the leadership has now turned BNP into an organisation of bewildered persons weakening the mental strength of its supporters even at grass-root level. At present it has no strength to launch any movement".

"Politics of BNP is now stuck in the sandbank under water for their constant 'wrong politics', the minister opined.

Terming the BNP as a 'dying river' the minister said, "Tide will never be seen in this disappearing river".

"We are not anxious about any anti-government movement launched by BNP, but like peace-loving people in the country we are concerned about the militants and terrorists who have been harboured by BNP", said the minister while he was addressing an anti-militancy rally organised by Magura district unit of Awami League (AL) at Nomani maidan in Magura town on Friday.

"The forces like BNP-Jamaat who did not want Bangladesh and its independence are introducing several militant organisations and carrying out militant activities", AL presidium member Obaidul Kader told the rally.

"But there is no room for militancy in our country. The militants and terrorists will be dealt with iron hands to eliminate them from our golden Bengal and the chapter of those extremists will be closed in near future", the minister assured.

In his about 28-minute speech Obaidul Quader terming AL president and the prime minister Sheikh Hasina as the most competent leader of the country in last 41 years said, "We achieved the independence of our country in 1971 under the leadership of our great leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and also be able to curb the terrorists under our beloved leader Sheikh Hasina".

With district unit AL president Alhaj Tanjel Hossain Khan in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by advocate the state-minister for youth and sports advocate Biren Shikder, AL central organising secretary BM Mojammel Haque MP,  lawmaker of Magura-1 constituency Major General (rtd) Abdul Wahhab, lawmaker for women reserve seat Kamrul Laila Jolly,  APS (Assistant Personal Secretary) to prime minister advocate Saifuzzaman Shikhar, administrator of Magura Zilla Parishad advocate Syed Shariful Islam, district unit general secretary of AL Pankaj Kundu, vice-presidents of the same unit AL Abu Nsir Bablu and Rostam Ali, district AL leader Shafikuzzaman Bachchu and Ashraful Alam Babul.
