BCL leader held in Ashulia; Firearm seized
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a union level leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and his cousin from Ashulia in Savar, on the outskirts in capital Dhaka early Tuesday when he tried to implicate his uncle in possessing illegal firearm.
The arrested are Shimulia union BCL president Robiul Islam Robi and his cousin Jhony.
The elite force also seized a pistol and two bullets from the scene.
RAB-4 senior assistant police superintendent Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury confirmed the matter
Robiul's paternal uncle Nazrul Islam alleged that Robi wanted to marry his daughter.
"As I did not agree to marry my daughter to Robi, he started harassing in different ways. He even brandished weapon to kill me," he said.
Being informed by Robi and Jhony, RAB men conducted a drive in Nazrul's house in Ronosthal area around 12:30am.
They, later, searched the house and recovered a pistol and two bullets from his garage.
After the firearm recovery, the RAB detained Robi and Jhony.
Our correspondent found Robi's mobile phone switched off when tried to know the matter.
Contacted, Dhaka district (North) BCL president Saidul Islam said, "I don't know about the arrest. Organisational action will be taken if anyone found involved in such incident."
