No ICU beds empty at 7 government hospitals in Dhaka


No bed is empty at the intensive care units (ICUs) of seven dedicated COVID-19 hospital in the country, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in its regular press release on the coronavirus situation on Wednesday (April 14).

The press release said 10 beds at the Kurmitola General Hospital ICU, 16 beds at Sheikh Russel Gastroliver Hospital ICU, 6 beds at Government Employees Hospital ICU, 20 beds at Dhaka Medical College Hospital ICU, 19 beds at Mugda Hospital ICU, 10 beds at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital ICU and 20 beds at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital ICU are occupied by critically ill COVID-19 patients.

Only four, out of 26 beds at Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Hospital ICU and one, out of 15 beds, at Rajarbagh Police Hospital ICU remain vacant.

Besides, there is no ICU beds at Infectious Diseases Hospital though Covid-19 infected patients are admitted there.

It means, 137 critically sick COVID-19 patients are admitted to 137, out of 142 beds, at the DGHS-enlisted 10 government hospitals in Dhaka, while only 5 beds remain vacant in the ICUs of these hospitals.

On the other hand, there are a total of 357 beds at the ICUs at the DGHS-enlisted private hospitals in the capital. Of those, 350 beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients, while only 7 beds are empty.

There are a total of 499 beds at the ICUs of DGHS-enlisted government and private hospitals in the capital. Of these, 487 beds are occupied by COVID-19 infected critically sick patients. Only 12 beds have remained empty at the ICUs of government and private hospitals.
