Jamaat's former ameer Makbul Ahmad is no more

Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh's former ameer Makbul Ahmad died at Ibn Sina Medical College Hospital in the capital today (Tuesday). Critically sick, Makbul Ahmed had been undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital.
Jamaat-e-Islami's present ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has confirmed the death of Makbul Ahmad in his official Facebook page. He expressed his profound shock at the death of former ameer and prayed eternal peace of the departed soul.
Makbul Ahmad was the third elected ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh. Earlier, Golam Azam and Matiur Rahman Nizami were the party's elected ameers. Apart from them, late Abbas Ali Khan and Moulana Abdur Rahim worked as acting ameer of the party at different times. As the third elected ameer, Makbul Ahmed served the party for a long time.
In absence of the top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh during their trials for crimes against humanity, Makbul Ahmad served as the acting ameer from June 29, 2010 to October 2016. From 2017, he served the party as the elected ameer. Later, he was replaced by Dr Shafiqur Rahman in 2019.
Makbul Ahmad took part in the Jatiya Sangsad election in 1986. He served as central organising secretary, assistant secretary general and Nayebe Ameer of the party. However, he did not take part in the 11th Jatiya Sangsad election.
