Bangladesh Bank has decided to keep all bank branches open from 10 am to 3 pm on Tuesday.
The central bank took the decision on Monday night considering that the pressure of customers may increase before the start of the strict lockdown announced by the government to check the spread of Coronavirus.
The decision was taken on Monday to control the crowd before the bank closed for seven days due to the lockdown, said Bangladesh Bank spokesman and Executive Director Serajul Islam.
“The decision to close the banks from Wednesday (April 14) could lead to a crowd at banks on Tuesday. For this reason, bank transactions will continue from 10 am to 3 pm on this day. And the auxiliary activities after the transaction will continue till 5 pm,” he added.
Meanwhile, the central bank said cash withdrawals of up to Tk one lakh a day could be made from ATM booths due to the seven-day lockdown. Earlier, most banks allow their customers to withdraw up to Tk 50,000 a day with a card.
