Court asks CID to investigate Samia's case

A Dhaka court has asked the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the case filed by Dhaka University teacher Samia Rahman against foreign national Alex Martin under Digital Security Act.

Bangladesh Cyber Crime Tribunal Judge As-Shams Jaglul Hossain passed the order on Thursday asking the CID to submit a report before it after investigating the matter.

Earlier on Wednesday, Samia Rahman, a teacher of Mass Communication Journalism Department at Dhaka University (DU), has filed the case against Alex Martin for bringing allegation of plagiarism against her.

In the case statement, Samia said the DU authorities have formed a probe body in September, 2017 to investigate the allegation of plagiarism against Samia Rahman and Syed Mahfujul Haque Marjan, a lecturer of Criminology Department of the DU.

The probe body recommended punishment for Samia based on an email sent by one Alex Martin of University of Chicago Press.
But, there was no one called Alex Martin with any association with the Critical Inquiry journal, she added.
