After his return from Singapore on Thursday, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has reiterated that the country's people would never accept stripping late President Ziaur Rahman of his 'Bir Uttam' gallantry title.
He said people of Bangladesh would never accept the decision of Jatiya Muktijoddha Council. It would never be acceptable to them.
Mirza Fakhrul was talking to journalists in the evening at Hazrat Shahjalal Airport on his return from Singapore after treatment.
The BNP secretary general said, "Ziaur Rahman himself achieved the gallantry award for his courageous role during the War of Liberation in 1971. He didn't receive it at anyone's mercy. Ziaur Rahman took part in the war actively and achieved the gallantry title. So, we believe that they won't be able to do any harm to Ziaur Rahman. None will be able to undermine the outstanding contributions of Ziaur Rahman to the independence of the country."
Mirza Fakhrul went Singapore on January 30 last. He received treatment at Farar Park Hospital there. He arrived in Dhaka just after a month by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. At that time, both Mirza Fakhrul and his wife Rahat Ara Begum were found getting into their car on wheel chairs at the airport.
