Rights activists at a seminar on Friday stressed the need for strengthening capacity of the first-hand humanitarian responders to address humanitarian crisis.
They said the capacity development of first-hand humanitarian responders such as the local NGOs and community organisations should be prioritised.
The seminar was organised by a consortium of NGOs and UN organisations at CIRDAP auditorium in the capital marking the World Humanitarian Day.
Moderated by Rezaul Karim Chowdhury of COAST, the seminar was addressed, among others, by Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Md Shah Kamal, Dr Mahbuba Nasreen of Dhaka University, Badi Akhter of Oxfam, Nayeem Warha of Brac and Asif Munier from IoM.
Badi Akhter of Oxfam emphasized integration of climate adaptation in humanitarian response and involvement of women rights organisations in this regard.
Asif Munier of IoM called for integration of migration, refugee issues and displacement in humanitarian responses.
Dr Mahbuba Nasreen of Dhaka University said the country has now more resources to invest in humanitarian efforts and the priority should be to develop capacity of the community and local NGOs in this regard.
