Elon Musk's Space Exploration Technologies Corp., or SpaceX, has plans to drill for natural gas in Texas, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing a hearing before the state's energy regulator.
The drilling will be done privately held near the Airspace company's launchpad and through a SpaceX subsidiary of Lone Star Mineral Development.
Bloomberg says it has not yet begun due to a dispute with the Dallas Petroleum Group, which claims ownership of some dormant wells on the same land. Earlier this week, electric car maker Tesla Inc. TSLA, + 0.20% CEO Kasturi tweeted that he would donate $100 million for the "best" carbon-capture technology.
Musk announced last year that he had moved to Texas, where Tesla was building a factory outside the capital, Austin. SpaceX also recently bought two oil rigs through the Lone Star Development Unit, possibly converting them to support SpaceX's programs, this week's news report said.
