Indian student found dead at pvt medical college hostel
RAJSHAHI, Jan 23: An Indian student of a private medical college in Rajshahi city was found dead in his room at the dormitory at around 8:30pm on Friday night.
The deceased, Iqbal Jafar Sharif, 25, from Murshidabad district of India's West Bengal state, was a fifth-year student of Barind Medical College.
He was staying at the dormitory designated for the college's foreign students, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sirajum Munir of Chandrima Police Station.
Based on primary investigation and information given by the witnesses, police suspect Sharif might have committed suicide. But they need to conduct more investigation to confirm how he died, police said.
Sharif went to his village home in Murshidabad as the medical college was closed due to Covid-19 pandemic. He returned on Tuesday.
Superintendent of the hostel Golam Maula said Sharif's friends broke open the door of his room as he wasn't responding and found his body hanging from the ceiling fan.
Sharif was taken to the hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, police said.
On March 29, 2017, Rajshahi police recovered the body of another foreign student--Maldivian citizen Raudha Athif, 21, at Islami Bank Medical College in Nawdapara area-- from her room at a dormitory of the medical college.
