Ashulia madrasa principal arrested for rape of child
Principal of a local madrasa was arrested at Ashulia in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, in a case filed against him for rape of a 10-year-old girl.
Maulana Towhid Bin Azhar, principal of two residential female madrasas at Ashulia's Khejur Bagan area, was arrested from Kafrul area in Mirpur after Thursday midnight. He was sent to court at about 11:00am on Friday (January 22).
Police said principal Towhid Bin Azhar's wife was not at home several days ago. Taking advantage of it, Azhar called the girl in his home on the pretext of making a cup of tea for him. Then he raped the girl. He also intimidated the girl asking her not to disclose the matter to anyone else.
However, the girl fled the madrasa tactfully when her class was going on early Wednesday afternoon. She then narrated her ordeal to her parents.
Hearing the matter, the victim's father went to Ashulia Police Station and filed a rape case against the principal under the Woman and Child Repression Prevention Act.
Sensing the danger ahead, the principal went into hiding fleeing the madrasa. He was later arrested from a mosque in Kafrul Police Station area on Thursday night.
Investigation officer of the case Ashulia Police Station SI Al Mamun Kabir said the victim was sent to the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for medical test, while the accused was sent to court.
