Controversy over sculpture to be resolved in one week: State Minister


State Minister for Religious Affairs Faridul Huque Khan on Saturday expressed the hope that the ongoing controversy over constructing and installing the sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman would be resolved within the next one week.

He said much of the controversy has already been resolved as the ministry of religious affairs has discussed the issue with the prominent alems and ulemas of the country.

"We hope that the controversy over the sculpture will be  resolved within the next one week," he said.

The State Minister was talking to journalists after exchanging pleasantries with the leaders of different organisations including local Awami League and Jamalpur Press Club at Jamalpur Circuit House on Saturday.

Khan said the Ministry of Religious Affairs has taken necessary steps to build a non-communal Bangladesh.

Later, the state minister took part in an opinion-sharing meeting organised by the Jamalpur deputy commissioner at the DC's conference room.

With the DC Mohammad Enamul Huq in the chair, the opinion-sharing meeting was also addressed by State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan, Awami League organising secretary Mirza Azam MP, Engineer Mozaffar Hossain MP, Hosne Ara MP, Police Super Md Delwar Hossain, District Council chairman Faruque Ahmed Chowdhury, District Awami League president Advocate Muhammad Baqi Billah and Jamalpur Press Club president Hafiz Raihan Sada.

Earlier in the afternoon, Islampur Upazila Awami League accorded him a reception on the Islampur High School ground for being appointed as the State Minister for Religious Affairs.
