 Warrant issued against Baul singer Rita Dewan, 2 others A tribunal in Dhaka on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant against Baul singer Rita Dewan and two others in cases filed under the Digital Security Act for hurting religious sentiments through making derogatory comments on Allah in a music programme. Two other accused are Shahjahan and Iqbal. Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal Judge Assam Jaglul Hossain issued the warrant after taking PIB's report into cognisance. Adv Imrul Hasan, lawyer of the plaintiff, confirmed the matter. On October 29, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted the report before the tribunal. Advocate Imrul Hasan filed a case against the singer with the cyber tribunal in Dhaka on February 2 while short filmmaker Rasel Mia filed another case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. According to the case statement, Rita made derogatory comments on Allah at a music programme at Dholartengor village in Kalihati uapzila of Tangail that went viral on social media. TF |
