Prisoner found hanging in Cox's Bazar jail

Police recovered the hanging body of a prisoner from Cox's Bazar district jail on Monday evening.

Deceased Md Mostafa, a resident of Sadar upazila, was accused in a cases filed with Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station following a clash at his village, said the jail sources. 

A court placed him on one-day remand on Sunday. But he committed suicide by hanging himself on Monday evening, the jail authorities claimed. 

Jailer Nesar Alam said Mostafa was rescued and taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

He also said a probe body was formed making deputy jailer Saidul Islam as head and it was asked to submit the investigation report within two working days.





The legal action will be taken following the investigation, he added. 

Confirming the matter, the police station officer in-charge Sheikh Munirul Gias said the body was kept at the hospital morgue.
