2 Narsingdi BCL leaders arrested in rape, attempt to rape cases
Two local leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of ruling Awami League, have been arrested at Raipura upazila in Narsingdi district in separate cases of rape and attempt to rape.
The arrested are Asadul Huque Chowdhury Shakil, 27, expelled president of Raipura Upazila BCL, and Dipu Mia, 22, general secretary of Raipura Municipality unit of BCL.
Shakil was arrested from a restaurant at Brahmanbaria early Friday afternoon after over a month of search.
He allegedly raped the Class 10 schoolgirl at Raju Auditorium at night on October 22.
The victim filed a case with Raipura Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on the following day.
Meanwhile, Dipu Mia was arrested for allegedly attempt to rape of a housewife, 29, whose husband is an expatriate.
According to the case statement, Dipu had been proposing the woman for unethical activities for long time. As she refused Dipu’s unethical proposal, he also threatened to rape her.
Dipu entered the house of the victim in the morning on November 26 and tried to rape her.
Hearing screaming of the victim, neigbours rushed to the spot and Dipu fled the scene.
Confirming the matter, Raipura Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Mohsinul Kadir said police arrested Dipu right after getting a complaint in the afternoon on the same day.
Dipu was sent to jail following a court order.
