Cut-paste in research from internet has become 'a major disease,' said Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni.
She was speaking as the chief guest at the launching of Comprehensive Learning Management System (CLMS), a plagiarism checker software, at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) at Mirpur Cantonment in the capital on Tuesday.
BUP has introduced the software to make the online BUP education program more up-to-date and to conduct online classes smoothly amid any kind of global adverse situation like corona.
The software enables to conduct online classes, exchange information between teachers and students, report on overall academic progress of the students, manage each teacher and student profile, upload videos, take any kind of exams and manage it by remote proctoring.
It also will verify the originality and clarity of writing like thesis, term paper and assignment through 'Turn it in' plagiarism checker app. Besides, this new platform will help to conduct academic activities related to education and research.
Dr Dipu Moni said: "In many cases, the entire paragraph is often copied and pasted while making cut-paste. It was observed that the name of the institution was mistakenly copied and pasted. It happens in many cases. If there is paragraph checker, students will tend to forget cut-paste. Besides, we'll have to insist our students to do something creative and fundamental."
Referring to the existing system of learning, the Education Minister said the government felt the necessity of bringing changes to the teaching and learning systems.
She said, "Not only to bring changes to curriculum, we are also working together to develop infrastructure, provide training to teachers, use of technology etc."
The Education Minister said while Corona has ruined everything around the world, pushed education towards an extreme uncertainty, right there BUP has set a unique precedent. In the midst of this global stagnation, BUP has been using technology from the very beginning to conduct online classes, examinations and all other administrative functions.
State Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury and BUP Vice-Chancellor Major General Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan, among others, addressed the function.
Members of Parliament, secretaries from various ministries, members of Bangladesh University Grants Commission, Professor, Bangabandhu Chair, BUP, members of Bangladesh Accreditation Council, faculty members of various universities, and high officials of BUP were present.
