Secondary students' annual exams cancelled; Promotion thru' assignments

This year's final examinations of the students of secondary level has been cancelled.
National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) will set a new syllabus for the students of VI-IX in short form and they will be given weekly assignments. After evaluating the assignments, the students will be promoted.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni informed this at a virtual press conference on Wednesday.
She said, "The students will have to finish four assignments within 30 days from the syllabus prepared by the NCTB. The syllabus will be sent to the chiefs of all educational institutions across the country by the NCTB. And those will be reach to the students through the teachers. The students can submit the assignments via online or at their respective institutions.
Deputy minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, technical and madrasa education secretary Md Aminul Islam Khan, chairmen of the education board were also present.
bdnews24.com adds: Asked whether the educational institution would be reopened in November, the education minister said, "What do you think? Under the current circumstances, educational institutions are in the process of closing in most of the places where they had reopened."
"There is concern about another wave of the coronavirus everywhere, which is backed by experts. That is why we will discuss the matter with the National Advisory Committee on COVID-19.”
"We can reopen schools when we believe that our students, teachers and parents will face little to no health risks. It's difficult to tell at this time when that can happen," she said.
The government announced the closure of all schools and other educational institutions in the country on March 17 following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. The shutdown period has since been extended on several occasions, most recently until October 31.
