A woman was gang raped allegedly by several Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists at MC College in Sylhet on Friday night while visiting there with her husband.
Sources said the woman along with her husband came to visit the college campus. At one stage, the husband went out of the college gate for smoke at about 8:30pm.
At that time, six to seven BCL activists tried to pick up the girl. As the husband protested the matter, they beat up him and then, they took the couple to the college hostel. There they tied up the man and raped the woman.
On information, police rescued the rape victim and her husband, and sent the woman to the One-stop Crisis Centre at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital around 10:00pm, said additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Jyotirmoy Sarker.
Meanwhile, the police raided the college hostel at early hours of Saturday and recovered a pipe gun, four machetes, a knife and two iron-made pipes from the room of BCL activist Saiful.
However, the victim's husband lodged a case with Shahporan Police Station at early hours against nine persons mentioning the name of six BCL men.
The six are Saifur, Shah Rony, Arjun, Mahfuz, Rabiul and Tareq.
Confirming the matter, the police station officer in-charge Abdul Kaiyum said another case will be filed under the Arms Act in the incident of arms recovery.
