Choreographer Ivan remanded in human trafficking case
National film award- winning choreographer Ivan Shahriar Sohag has been put on a seven-day remand in a case filed over human trafficking.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara passed the remand order on Sunday rejecting his bail prayer.
Earlier in the day, the investigation officer of the case produced him before the court with seven days' remand prayers.
On the other hand, Ivan's lawyer submitted a bail petition on behalf of his client.
Earlier on September 12, the same court ordered to send him to jail.
Criminal Investigation Department of police (CID) arrested the dancer from city's Niketan area on September 10.
The CID said human trafficking gang's leader Azam Khan and his four assicictes had been arrested in August following information given by Dubai police, .
Later, acting on their information, police arrested Ivan.
Four of them have since given confessional statements to a court. Ivan's name was mentioned in the statements of two suspects, prompting the CID to detain him in the case over the matter.
Ivan won the National Film Award in 2017 for his choreography for the film 'Dhyatteriki'. He also leads a dance troupe called 'Sohag Dance Group' and is the chairman of an advertising agency 'Exposure BD'.
