Hefazat-e Islam will follow the ideals of its ameer Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, who passed away on Friday, said the organisation's secretary general Moulana Junayed Babunagari.

Besides, the council will decide who is going to be the next ameer.

Moreover, the Shura Committee will determine who will be the next director general of Hathazari Madrasa, he also said.

Junayed Babunagari made the remarks while talking to journalists in Chattogram on Saturday.

He said: "We're also shocked at the death of Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi along with his family. Not only us, but also the people of the country including the inhabitants of Hathazari are deeply shocked at his death. I call upon all to pray for him so that Allah bless him with a place in heaven."

Babunagari said, "It's very difficult to fill up the vacuum created by the demise of Allama Shafi. It's really very tough."

Asked who is going to the next ameer of Hefazat-e Islam, he said, "I can't tell anything about it. Allah only knows it. However, we'll try our best to materialise his ideals. It is applicable to both Hathazari Madrasa and Hefazat-e Islam. He was ameer of Hefazat. Now, there will be a council and the council will decide who is going to the next ameer of Hefazat. None can fix it alone."

Regarding the running of Hathazari Madrasa affairs, Babunagari said Allama Shafi wrote it down during his lifetime that the Shura Committee will run the madrasa affairs. The Shura Committee will decide who will be the director general of the madrasa.

Meanwhile, Hefazat-e Islam ameer Shah Ahmad Shafi was laid to eternal rest at the graveyard of Hathazari Madrasa early Saturday afternoon after his namaj-e-janaza held at the madrasa premises following Zohr prayers.

Hundreds of alems, ulemas, madrasa students and common people coming from different parts of the country attended the namaj-e-janaza.

Moulana Yusuf, eldest son of Allama Shafi, led the janaza prayer that stretched upto one kilometer of area on the highway. He sought blessings of the countrymen for his father before the janaza.

Ahmad Shafi had long been suffering from old age complications including diabetes and hypertension. After he fell sick at Hathazari Madrasa, he was rushed to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where he underwent treatment at the ICU. As his condition deteriorated on Friday afternoon, he was brought in Dhaka by an air ambulance. He was then admitted to Asgar Ali Hospital at Dhupkhola Maidan in Gendaria. Some time after the admission, he was pronounced dead by the on-duty doctors at the hospital.
