Few COVID-19 hospitals to be turned into normal ones: Health Minister


Few COVID-19 dedicated hospitals will be turned into normal hospitals at the end of August as the infection rate of the deadly virus has declined across the country, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque.

“Few COVID-19 hospitals will be made non-COVID-19 hospitals as the infection rate has fallen. The decision will be implemented at the end of this month,” he said.

The minister made the comment at his office at Secretariat on Thursday.

Zahid further said they took the decision in the wake of less intensity of coronavirus infection, declining condition of treatment facilities for other diseases at hospitals.

According to the Health Minister, closing of Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) daily briefing on coronavirus sitaution will not cause any problem. They would provide update information on COVID-19 through press releases.

Bangladesh on Thursday reported the detection of 2,617 new cases in 24 hours, raising the total number of cases to 2,69,115.

Meanwhile, another 44 patients died of Covid-19 during the period raising the death tally to 3,557.
