Teachers, officials and employees of public universities from now on can not work with other educational institutions without prior permission.
University Grants Commission (UGC) has sent letter to 45 public universities on Monday urging the authorities concerned to ensure that all teachers, officials and employees of public universities must follow the service rule properly.
As per the rule, they cannot work with other public and private educational institutions, run their own businesses or engage with other profitable organisations directly or indirectly without permission from the authorities concerned, the letter said.
"Some teachers, officials and employees of public universities are working with different government and private organisations without prior approval of the authorities violating the service rule. On the other hand, some are running their own businesses, which is a clear violation of the service rule," said the letter.
Vice Chancellors have been urged to ensure that the service rule be applied and followed by all properly for the overall interest of the universities.
