Banker held for beating wife for dowry

Police have detained a banker for beating his wife at Sadar upazila in Satkhira district.

Injured Kajal Rani Sarkar of Mymensigh, is now undergoing treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital.

Kajal is an assistant teacher at Shimulbaria Govt Primary School in Sadar upazila. She got married with Ranjan Kumar Boidya in the upazila on 2011. Kumar works at Satkhira branch of Agrani Bank Ltd.

Police said Kajal Rani Sarkar used to be beaten up by husband for dowry. She alleged that she gave dowry of Tk 20 lakh to her husband so far.

On Saturday afternoon, when Kumar demanded Tk 5 lakh from her, she refused to provide the amount.

Subsequently, Ranjan kicked him on her belly.

Police also claimed that her mother-in-law and husband tried to strangulate her to death.

Hearing her shouting, neighbours rushed rescued her and rushed to hospital.

Sadar Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Md Asaduzzaman said receiving written complaint from Kajal, police arrested Ranjan Kumar. Boidya. Legal action would be taken after investigation.
