RAB will investigate the sensitive case impartially: Spokesman

The case filed in connection with the killing of former army official Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan is "much sensitive and sensational." Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has taken over the case at the directive of the court. So, the elite force will take legal action after investigating the case impartially, said RAB spokesman Lt Col Ashique Billah on Thursday night.
He said the RAB has been given the responsibility to investigate the case following the court order. Accordingly, the court placed three accused on a seven-day remand. The accused are Inspector Pradeep Kumar Saha, sub-inspector Liakat and constable Nanda Kumar Rakshit.
"RAB hs taken over the case and investigate it remaining all kinds of external influence," he said.
Major (Retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was killed in police firing at the checkpost at Shamlapur area in Baharchhara union along the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive at night on July 31. The incident created a lot of sensation both at home and abroad.
Ashique Billah said seven, out of nine accused implicated in the case have surrendered. "We're also investigating the role of two other absconding accused."
The RAB spokesman said there is no binding of specific time-limit in the case. However, the Teknaf Police Station has been ordered to handover the case to the RAB's Cox's Bazar Battalion (RAB-15) within the next seven days.
Cox's Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate M Helaluddin placed three accused including OC Pradeep and Sub Inspector Liakat on a seven-day remand on Thursday evening after RAB-15 second in commander Major Mehedi Hasan pleaded to the court to place all the accused on a 10-day remand for questioning.
RAB-15 official Major Mehedi Hasan appeared before the court in connection with Major (Retd) Sinha killing case filed by his eldest sister Sharmin Shahria Ferdous with another court in Cox's Bazar on Wednesday afternoon. The court also granted permission to RAB-15 to investigate the case. On the same day, the Police Headquarters withdrew OC Pradeep.
The court also issued warrants of arrest against the two fugitive accused.
Earlier, seven accused police members surrendered before the court, while two remained absconding.
Accused Pradeep Kumar Das was taken to the court under police custody at about 5.00pm.
Pradeep Kumar Das surrendered on Thursday, hours after a Chattogram court issued warrants of the arrest of nine policemen, including the OC.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina phoned Sinha Rashed Khan's mother and assured her of justice into the killing of her son.
