3 killed in road mishaps in three districts
Three persons were killed and 11 others injured in separate road accidents in three districts- Sherpur, Joypurhat and Naogaon, in two days.
NALITABARI, SHERPUR: A minor boy was killed in an accident on the Nalitabari-Nakugaon Road in Nayabil Bazaar area under Nalitabari Upazila of the district on Tuesday evening.
Deceased Minhaz, 6, was the son of Idris Ali of Fulpur Village under Ramchandrakura Union in the upazila.
Local sources said the child was crossing the road in the said area. At that time, a Nalitabari-bound battery-run easy-bike ran over him, leaving him seriously injured.
He was rushed to Upazila Health Complex where he was declared dead.
Locals caught the vehicle but its driver managed to flee the scene.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalitabari Police Station (PS) Basir Ahmed Badal confirmed the incident.
JOYPURHAT: An old woman was killed and three others were injured in a road accident in Kalai Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
Deceased Mabia Khatun, 60, was the wife of late Siddik of Panchgram in the upazila.
Kalai PS Inspector Abdul Malek said the victims were returning home by a votvoti in the evening after attending a function in a relative's house at Gobindaganj Upazila of Gaibandha District. On the way, in Punot Bus Stand area, the votvoti driver lost its control and fell into a roadside ditch, leaving four injured.
Locals with the help of police rescued and rushed them to Kalai Upazila Health Complex. Later, Mabia Khatun died on way to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
PORSHA, NAOGAON: A boy was killed and eight others were injured in an accident on the Shisha-Matindar Road near the Matindar Bridge in Porsha Upazila of the district on Monday morning.
Deceased Robiul Islam, 12, was the son of Shahidul of Chawknamazu Village in the upazila.
The injured are Rajib, 22, and Rashed, 14, sons of Shamsul Islam, Kamruzzaman, 32, son of Noor Islam, Ramzan, 7, son of Kamruzzaman, Liton, 32, son of Nazrul, Shahin Alam, 22, son of Abdur Razzak, and Sagor, 20, son of late Badar of the village, and Sharif, 20, son of Faruk of Pahariapukur Village in the upazila.
Sources said the victims were enjoying a ride boarding a votvoti (locally made human hauler) in the morning. In the said area, the votvoti driver lost its control, and it turned turtle on roadside, leaving Robiul dead on the spot and eight injured.
