17 drown in Netrakona boat capsize


At least 17 people drowned in a trawler capsize in a haor under Madan upazila of Netrakona district on Wednesday.

Two more boat passengers remained missing.

The accident took  place at Govindashree Rajalikanda around 2pm.

Madan UNO Bulbul Ahmed Talukder said all the dead are male. Of them, two children.

Police and local sources said a group of 48 teachers and students of a madrasa from Char Shirta union in Sadar upazila of Mymensingh came to visit uchitpur haor, locally known as Mini Cox's Bazar, by a mechanised boat around 1pm.

The trawler sank in the haor due to strong wave, leaving 17 dead.

Confirming the accident. Madan police OC M Ramijul Haque said two people remained missing in the accident.





Rescue operation is being conducted, he added.
