Sirajganj traders reluctant to buy rawhides

Local leather traders in Sirajganj are reluctant to buy rawhides of sacrificed animals this year as the government fixed Tk 28-32 square foot outside Dhaka, lower than previous year.

Last year, the price of salted rawhides were Tk 35-40.

Although the government has fixed the price, cow skin has been sold at Tk 200-250 while the goat skin at Tk 40-50.

Animal skins are thrown as the traders did not get proper price.

Traders said it is not possible for them to collect the skins beyond their means due to lack of money. They also said skins of small goat remained unsold.

Total 213 traders are in the district.

Around Tk 200 crore of Sirajganj traders are due to Dhaka traders. Local traders failed to buy skins due to financial crcisis. For this, field level traders are passing days in difficulties.
