Floods hit 18 districts; 8 dead

Floods have, so far, hit 18 districts of the country while affected 92 upazilas and 535 unions.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Enamur Rahman informed this at a virtual press conference from the Secretariat on the overall flood situation on Thursday.

Eight people have died in the floods. Of them, four died in Jamalpur and one each in Sunamganj, Lalmonirhat, Sylhet and Tangail, he said adding the floods also left some 4,87,376 families marooned.

"This year's flood will not last long as the river water has started receding. And water levels of those rivers rose will also start to reduce within 48 hours," said the state minister.

Mentioning the Flood Forecast Centre report, he said the overall flood situation in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Kurigram districts is likely improve in next 24 hours while  in Gaibandha, Bogura, Jamalpur, Natore and Naogaon remain unchaged and the situation in

Sirajganj, Tangail, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Faridpur, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Rajbari and Dhaka likely worsen during the period.
