Jamuna swells in Bogura, 14 by-polls voting centres shifted
Water level in the river Jamuna continues to rise due to heavy rain and onrush of water from the upstream areas.
The river was flowing 98cm above the danger level at Sariakandi point at 6.00pm on Tuesday. Water level in the river increased to 47cm in last 24-hour.
The overall flood situation in the areas near the Jamuna River is gradually declining by hour. Residents of Sariakandi upazila have taken shelter on flood embankment with their domestic animals.
Many people have taken shelters on Brahmaputra flood control embankment, cluster villages and high land areas fearing fresh flood, said upazila project implementation officer Sarwar Hossain.
Local administration has shifted the residents of 14 voting centres at Sonatala and Sariakandi upazilas to flood control embankment and high land areas for Bogura-1 by-polls.
District Election Commission officer Mahbub Alam Shah said they have shifted three voting centres of Sonatala upazila while 11 in Sarikandi upazila due to the flood.
New 52 villages inundated in Sariakandi upazila and a total of 123 villages affected by the flood in the upazila.
