Hostel super remanded for dumping students' certificates
A Dhaka court on Friday placed the superintendent of a student hostel at the city's East Rajabazar on one-day remand for dumping the certificates of more than 100 students into a roadside dustbin as the tenants delayed to pay rents.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masudur Rahman passed the order after Kalabagan police produced Alif Chatrabash super Khorshed Alam before his court and pleaded to place him on a three-day remand in the theft case.
According to the case documents, more than 100 students of private Sonargaon University in city's Green Road area used to live in the hostel. As the government declared holiday amid coronavirus pandemic in March, the students went to their village homes locking their rooms.
After their arrival from village homes, the students the students learned that their landlord dumped their certificates and other goods from their rooms into a nearby roadside dustbin as they failed to pay the three-month room rents.
Later, two tenant students Sajib Mia and Sohan Mia filed ttwo separate cases with Kalabagan Police Station against the hostel authorities and landlord on Thursday night.
Police arrested Khorshed on early Thursday and is looking for landlord Mujibul Huq in connection with the cases.
