3 killed in lightning in Habiganj while fishing

Three people were killed and three others injured in separate incidents of lightning strikes at Ajmiriganj and Shayestaganj upazilas in Habiganj district on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Marfat Ali, 17, son of Malik Mia, and Robin Mia, 17, son of Abed Ali, inhabitants of Rania village in Ajmiriganj upazila; and Askir Mia, 55, of Chandipur village in Shayestaganj upazila.

A thunderstorm struck five young men in Rania village while they were fishing in the river Kushiara, leaving them injured.

They were rushed to Ajmiriganj Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Marfat and Malik dead.

Ajmiriganj UNO Naima Khandaker confirmed the matter and said the deceased's family would get compensation from the government.

Meanwhile, one Askir Mia was killed by lightning strike when he was fishing in the river.





Shayestaganj UNO Shumi Akter confirmed the matter, adding that the family of the quinquagenarian was given cash assistance.
