Former health minister Mohammed Nasim underwent a successful surgery on Friday and kept at 48-hour observation.
Earlier in the morning, the Awami League leader’s health condition has deteriorated after he suffered a brain haemorrhage while undergoing treatment at a city hospital for COVID-19.
Awami League Office Secretary barrister Biplob Barua told media that the operation was successful.
He also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has enquired about the health condition of Nasim. She also talked to the physicians and Nasim's son, he added.
Nasim was admitted to Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in Shyamoli with COVID-19 symptoms, including a fever and a cold, on June 1.
He later tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection. His condition had improved over the next three days before the setback on Friday.
