Sikder Group MD's Range Rover seized, case placed on DB

A luxurious Range Rover car of Ron Huque Sikder, managing director of Sikder Group has been seized by Detective Branch (DB) of police in connection with a case for attempting to murder two officials of Exim Bank Limited.
The car (Dhaka Metro Gha-18-3945) was seized after conducting a raid into Ron Huque Sikder's Gulshan residence on Tuesday night. However, the DB team could not arrest anyone from the residence.
Ron Huque opened fire at the Exim Bank managing director Mohammad Haider Ali Mia sitting inside the car, according to the charges filed against him.
Ron Huque Sikder and Dipu Huque Sikder, two sons of Sikder Group's chairman Zainul Huque Sikder, are accused of trture and attempt to murder in a case filed by Exim Bank Ltd with the city's Gulshan police station on May 19 last. Both the brothers are directors of National Bank Limited.
According to the charges, Ron Huque Sikder and Dipu Huque Sikder attempted to kill the Exim Bank MD Mohammad Haider Ali Mia and Additional MD Mohammad Firoz Hossain on May 7 last after they refused to approve Tk 500 crore bank loan in favour of Sikder brothers against a mortgaged property which they had over-valuated.
They were also accused of forcefully taking the banks officials to a Banani apartment where they were detained, tortured and forced them to sign on blank sheets of paper.
After the case was filed, the two brothers fled the country for Thailand on May 25 by their own air ambulance.
The police's DB North is investigating the case. The DB deputy commissioner Mashiur Rahman on Tuesday said after taking over the case they have begun collecting evidence. He said everyone involved in the case would have to face the law.
