Left Democratic Alliance (LDA), a platform of the country's left-leaning political parties, have demanded lowering the prices of petrol and diesel, instead of raising bus fares.
It has also called for suspension of collecting tolls on different roads and bridges.
At the same time, the LDA has strongly condemned and protested against the issuance of gazette notification by the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.
The LDA has announced nationwide human-chain, rally and demonstration programmes to press home the demand of cancelling the gazette notification on June 2.
The announcement was made from a human-chain and rally held in front of the National Press Club on Sunday afternoon.
Taking part in the human-chain programme, LDA leaders said the decision to hike bus fares is illogical and anti-people. It amounts to a serious blow to the common people who have been devastated by coronavirus pandemic. It cannot be accepted in any way.
Presided over by LDA coordinator and BSD leader Bazlur Rashid Firoz, the rally was also addressed by Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) secretary Comrade Ruhin Hossain Prince, BSD (Marxist) Comrade Manash Nandi, Ganatantrik Biplobi Party general secretary Comrade Moshrefa Mishu, Biplobi Workers' Party politbureau member Comrade Akbar Khan and Bangladesh Samajtantrik Andolon convener Comrade Hamidul Huq.
