Woman assaulted for refusing to sign Talaq Nama

A woman was physically assaulted by his mother-in-law and sister-in-law at Sadar upazila in Bogua district overnight on Saturday as she refused to sign in Talaq Nama.

The victim is now receiving treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

According to sources, the victim married one Abdur Rahim, a resident of Madhumajira area under the upazila, about 12 years ago. There has been a feud in the family from the very beginning of their marriage life.

In sequel to the feud, the husband of the victim asked her to give talaq.

There are allegations that the mother-in-law and sister-in-law of the victim confined her in a room on Saturday night and beat her, cut hair overnight after she refused to sign in the talaqnama.

The victim escaped the torture and fled the house on Sunday morning before admitting to the hospital. Injury marks were found in the body of the victim.

Sadar Police Station OC SM Badiuzzaman said he heard about the incident. Legal steps would be taken upon receiving complaint in this regard, he added.
