Aslam Fakir who escaped hanging on President's clemency arrested again

Former death row convict Aslam Fakir, who was freed in 2017 under presidential clemency on political grounds has been arrested in a murder case again.
A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 arrested him conducting raid on a rented house at Chowgacha Municipality in Jashore early Sunday morning.
Later, he was taken to Faridpur Camp of RAB.
On April 21 last, one Shahid Sheikh, 48, was killed at village Luxmipur in Manikdaha union under Bhanga Police Station in Faridpur district.
Following his murder, one Shajahan Matbar filed a murder case with Bhanga Police Station mentioning the names of 54 persons including Aslam Fakir, and more 15 to 20 unidentified persons. The complainant also brought charges of looting, arsoning and vandalising against the accused.
Since then the 50-year-old Aslam Fakir has been absconding.
Confirming the authenticity of arresting Aslam Fakir, RAB-8 Faridpur Camp's commander Debashish Karmakar said Aslam Fakir was arrested on the basis of intelligence report as an absconding accused in a murder case. Process is going on to handover to Bhanga Police Staion.
It may be recalled that Faridpur District and Sessions Judge court awarded Aslam Fakir and two others--Tara Mridha and Imarat Ali--death sentences by hanging for murdering Bhanga's Manikdah union parishad chairman AKM Shahed Ali alias Saheb Mia on September 25, 2003.
Later, the High Court also upheld the verdict of the subordinate court.
After remaining in jail for 13 years and two days, Aslam Fakir was released from Gazipur High Security Prison on August 25, 2017 under Presidential clemency.
