Man stabbed dead over rivalry, houses torched in Madaripur
A trader was stabbed to death by his rival's group at Sadar upazila in Madaripur district early Thursday over establishing supremacy.
The deceased was identified as Noor Amin Howlader, 32, son of Alauddin Howlader, a resident of Hajirhawla village.
However, supporters of Noor Amin vandalised and torched 20-25 houses of one Akther Bepari's supporter after spreading of his fake news of death.
Locals said Akhter Bepari and Kalam Daroga, residents in the village, had a rivarly with district unit Awami League general secretary Md Ilias Ahmed Howlader and Zakir Howlader for a long time.
In sequel to their enmity, two groups locked in an altercation on Wednesday.
Supporters of Akthter Bepari and Kalam Daroga attacked Noor Amin, supporter of Ilias group, in the district town on Thursday evening and stabbed him, leaving critically injured.
He was rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 1.30am.
Ilias said, “Supporters of Akhter stabbed Noor Amin at his shop on Thursday afternoon as he was alone there. Locals vandalised some houses after spreading of the death news. We demand just for the murder incident.”
Additional superintendent of police (Sadar circle) said they have deployed additional police members in the area and the situation is under control now.
No one yet lodged any complaint over this murder with the police station, he added.
