Ex-GCC councilor 'commits suicide' fearing loan burden

A former councilor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) has reportedly committed suicide being unable to bear the burden of paying his loans.

Monir Hossain, a former councilor of Ward No. 36 of GCC and a resident of Kamarjuri area committed the suicide in the city.

Police recovered his body from his home on Thursday morning.

Gacha Police Station OC Md Ismail Hossain said the deceased wrote a note before his death. In the note he wrote that he borrowed Tk 20 lakh from people, the OC said.

The OC further said Monir was feeling sick for the last few days and samples from his body was collected on coronavirus suspicion.

An unnatural death case was filed with the police station in this connection.
