Jamuna boat capsize: Death toll rises to 10

The death toll from Tuesday's boat capsize in the River Jamuna of Sirajganj district rose to 10 with the recovery of five more bodies on Thursday.

Chauhali UNO Dewan Moudud Ahmed told media that three bodies were retrieved from Khas Kauliar Char and Poylar Char areas in the upazila while another from Sthal Char area under Enayetpur Police Station in the morning.

Senior assistant police superintendent Shahinur Kabir informed that another body of a man, aged about 40, was recovered from Jotpara area under Khas Kaulia union in the afternoon.

One of the deceased was identified as Alam Mia, son of Noor Mohammad Mia of Singair upazila of Manikganj.

Six more people are remained missing in the incident.

On Tuesday, an engine boat, carrying 73 passengers, caught by strong wind sank in the Jamuna River in Sthalchar area while heading towards Chauhali from Enayetpur, said Rashedul Islam Biswas, officer-in-charge of Chauhali Police Station.

Police with the help of local people rescued 57 people.

Later, three bodies were recovered the same day while two on Wednesday.
