Nor'wester kills AL leader, causes massive damages in Bogura

A local leader of Awami League (AL) died after a tree collapsed on him during a nor'wester at Kahalu upazila in Bogura district on Tuesday night.

Deceased Najibar Rahman, 70, was the former vice-president of Kahalu Upazila AL and former chairman of the Kalai union parishad under the upazila. 

Kahalu Police Station officer in-charge Zia Latifur Rahman said a mango tree fell on him during the storm while he was asleep, leaving him dead on the spot.  

Moreover, the storm with rain and strong winds left a trail of damage across the different upazilas of the district.

Some 11,00 hectors of Boro paddy field were devastated at Shibganj upazila, said Abul Kashem Azad, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension in Bogura.

Vegetables fields and a number of houses in different upazilas were also damaged during the storm, he added.
