Jamuna boat capsize death toll rises to five; 11 still missing



Two more bodies were retrieved from the Jamuna River on Wednesday morning after a boat capsized in Chauhali upazila of Sirajganj on Tuesday afternoon.

With this, the death toll rose to five.

The deceased were identified as Amzad Hossain, 40, and Azizul Haq, 38, residents of Shahazadpur upazila in the district.

Chauhali UNO Dewan Mawdut Ahammed said the victims' relatives and locals recovered the bodies in Jotpara area in the morning.

Deputy assistant director of Sirajganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Manjil Haq said a divers team from Dhaka reached there at night to conduct search operation.

On Tuesday, the bodies of three people --Pashan Fakir, 65, Naeem, 4, and Sheikh Kamal Molla, 45— were recovered.

Earlier, the boat sank with 73 passengers on Tuesday while going to Chauhali from Enayetpur, said Rashedul Islam Biswas, officer-in-charge of Chauhali Police Station.





As many as 57 people were rescued and five died while 11 are still missing.
