Three sons detained for abandoning mother on road in Joypurhat

Police arrested three men at Sadar upazila in Joypurhat district on Monday night for abandoning their 80-year-old mother on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The arrested persons were Abdur Razzak, Moazzem Hossain and Mozammel Huque. They were the sons of late Noor Mohammad Mollah and Chharitunnesa of Janiar Bagan area.

Sources said local people found Chharitunnesa abandoned beside the Joyurhat-Akkelpur road. They then called on the emergency helpline 999.

However, the national emergency helpline 999 contacted Joypurhat Sadar Police Station, and sought an intervention in this regard.

Being informed, the police  went to the spot and rescued the mother from there and sent her to the Vocational Training Centre's Safe Home.

Shilpi Akter, wife of a Chharitunnesa's grandson, filed a case against her father-in-law and his two brothers.

Later, police arrested them from the house, said the police station officer in-charge Shahriar Khan.

Shahriar said the elderly woman's sons started torturing their mother after she transferred the ownership of properties to them.

Later, they drove her out of the house.
