Facebook Inc. (FB) has seen the number of paid users of its Workplace software, which is used for corporate chats and video calls, increase to 5 million as the coronavirus pandemic accelerated the need for remote working tools.
The social media network said that the number of paid users of the workplace software increased from 2 million to 5 million in October, adding that it was also introducing additional video features to meet the growing demand.
Facebook is teaming up with its team of software to provide remote work tools like Microsoft (MSFT) to other technology companies with more than 75 million active users daily. Meanwhile, the popular video conferencing company Zoom Video Communications (ZM) rose from an average of 10 million active users per day in late December to 300 million in December.
Facebook’s workplace platform will offer workplace homes a place to meet up to 50 participants for an unlimited time for business. Other features include adding new live productive tools to the workplace, which will enable users to stream live from their desktops with professional video tools. Users can also opt for automatic captions for live videos in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.
What's more, Facebook has noted that the demand for Oculus Quest, its virtual reality software platform, has grown and is now used for professional training and virtual meetings such as Nestle Purina, Hilton (HLT) hotel chains and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ).
The company has updated that workgroups, a kind of Facebook group to connect people with their colleagues, have more than 20 million monthly active users in just six months.
Shares of Facebook rose 1.5% at the end of Friday to 23 234.91, boosting its rally sharply by 60% since mid-March.-Internet
