Man beaten to death over rivalry in Sirajganj

A man was beaten to death by his rival groups over establishing supremacy at Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj district on Sunday.

The deceased Najem Uddin, 65, lived in Kanglakandi village under the upazila.

Family members alleged that a group led by Nazrul Islam Master, of the village, had a feud with the supporters of Rouf group for a long time.

Supporters of Nazrul group attacked Najem after finding him alone in the morning and assaulted him mercilessly.

Later, both of the groups engaged in a violent clash, leaving seven people injured.

Najem succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

Shahjadpur Police Station OC Ataur Rahman said police recovered the body and sent it to 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital morgue.
